URBANITE MAR 2008
Out the Mouth of...
By the time 29-year-old Timonium native Lisa Ponzoli opened her own clothing boutique, she had already helped manage an apparel specialty store, worked as an assistant buyer for two national chains, and held positions in fashion sales, design, and production in Washington, D.C. “I started when I was in high school sewing all my own clothes,” she says. Now she has her own store Babe (910 S. Charles St.; 410- 244-5114; babeaboutique.com), where she rings up sales, carefully selects the stock, and even models most of the clothes on the website. Ponzoli carries designer denim lines like Hudson, Miss Me, Rich & Skinny, and Raven, along with apparel by BCBGirls, Sky, Rails, and Code Vintage. Most items are priced between $40 and $200 for a look that’s sophisticated yet versatile and fun. “You don’t have to spend a lot to look good,” she says. Beginning this month, Babe also offers shoes (from Steve Madden, Diba, and Luichiny).

Baltimore Magazine JAN 2008
2008: A Shopping Odyssey
Babe, 910 S. Charles St., 410-244-5114
Opened: October 2007
Lisa Ponzoli, the owner of Babe, is one very focused lady—her career in fashion has taken her to all corners of the industry: buying, merchandising, repping, and designing. Owning her own shop was the inevitable next step—and she went from writing a business plan to securing the financing to opening the door of her Federal Hill boutique in two and a half months. Aside from well-priced garments aimed at young professionals, you’ll find a nicely edited selection of handbags, candles, frames, cards, and
jewelry.

PaperDoll Magazine HOLIDAY 2007 New Stores on the Scene
Lisa Ponzoli’s BABE. is our first stop this winter for actually affordable,cutting-edge fashion. A retail vet who put in 10 years as pro merchandiser and buyer, Lisa says, “I want to bring together the versatile nature of today’s trends, well-priced basics, premium denim and eclectic jewelry—so everyone will find something...” Lines include BCBGirls, Nick and Mo, Habitual Denim, Rich & Skinny, Raven Denim, Interlud and more. For chill months, Lisa loves the BCBGirls angora blend sweater dress with cowl neck in pale blue ($88)…and the Miss Me khaki jacket (shown $92). “The fun details, like half-length and double buttons, make it a one-of-a-kind in a sea of basic khaki..."

While Savvy’s ‘babe’ years are a probably distant memory, those adorable Federal Hill gals still have years to spare. That’s why they’ll be breezing into Babe for well-priced denim from Miss Me, kicky classics from Hazel, floaty tops from Zoa and the fabulous-color-with-just-enough-structure-and-slouch bags from Latico. Equally fun? Home accessories like leather frames from Swing, candles from Illume and the retro-feeling tiles and frames from Xenia Taler. Don’t miss: Savvy knows it’s vaguely passive-aggressive to wear her new Camp Cool “Excuse me while I drink my lunch” T-shirt when working out with her trainer, but she does it anyway.
